US 87 from IH 20 to FM 700 in Big Spring, Howard County, TX, TxDOT

The US 87 Bypass project in Big Spring, TX constructs 8 miles of new location freeway in the Ports to Plains Corridor. The project has a construction cost of $68M. US 87 had high auto and truck traffic counts and elevation grade changes with ramp and roadway tie-ins. There are 8 overpasses, 5 bridges, and 2 railroad structures, including Tx40 and Tx54 beams and ramp construction. The project consists of excavation, embankment, drainage structures, bridges, retaining walls, asphalt pavement, illumination, and pavement markings.

IEA is responsible for providing total construction management for the project including inspection, records management, and material management. IEA ensures appropriate inspection takes place, materials are tested at the required rates, and the records are kept according to TxDOT and Industry best practices. 

Retaining Walls: IEA reviewed and approved shop drawings, inspected panels, select backfill, flowable backfill, and embankment. We ensured plumbness through frequent quality checks.

Shop Drawings: IEA completed shop drawings for 10 bridges and 15 MSE walls in 3 weeks.
